Talking to Dan, the Fish Shop owner at 183 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8BG (opposite Bishopston Library), we very quickly got into art, poetry and music, so what better to do than locate-in-place a soundpool right outside his shop and populate that with a curated series of content (starting off with poetry)! All strickly experimental, as usual, let’s see how this develops! I (Ralph Hoyte) initially thought the poems should have something to do with fish/the sea/Gloucester Road/Bristol, but let’s see how that rolls – just nice to hear poetry on the ever-busy Gloucester Road, and outside a fish shop to boot: listen to the poems, buy some of Dan’s prime quality fish for your supper!
If you are a poet with a local connection and would like me to feature some of your poetry in the soundpool outside the Fish Shop, do send me some poems for consideration (or if you have a short – 3-5min, no more – piece of your own music send me that – a mix of poetry and music would be fab!). I’m thinking that each features artist will get a month’s exposure.
This is all totally unpaid (I’m not getting anything either), so make my life easy: send a paper copy of your poems AND the same recorded as a WAV or MP3 file – in reasonable quality pretty please! – to ralph@ralphhoyte.org
SERIES#1 August 2024: 4 poems by Ralph Hoyte (idea-initiator, curator).

HOW TO LISTEN IN
STEP ONE: Get SatsymphQR for iPhone here: iPhone, or for Android here : Android (you will be asked for the usual permissions ie ‘use phone location’ etc – say ‘yes’)
STEP TWO: open SatsymphQR on your phone, then point your camera at the QR (left) and use the SCAN button WITHIN THE APP to add ‘fishshoppoems’ to ‘Library’. YOU MUST USE THE SCAN FUNCTION WITHIN THE APP!
Once it’s in ‘Library’ you can play it anytime you like by clicking on ‘fishshoppoems’ in Library (so long as you’re outside the Fish Shop – remember, it’s LOCATED audio – it will only play in the – invisible – soundpool we have placed outside the Fish Shop!). For the best experience, use headphones or earbuds!
Oh, you’re looking at this on your phone and thinking, “er, how am I supposed to scan a QR ON my phone WITH my phone???” So: either get the QR on someone else’s phone, and then scan that; or, when you’re actually AT the Fish Shop, scan the QR on the flyer outside the Fish Shop!
Thinks: “why do they do it that way???” Answer: “Satsymph do it that way as it gives us as artists maximum control!” ENJOY! Tell your friends! Happy Fishing!
